Intransigence - the Unbroken

Intransigence - The UnBroken

The Sun would never
bow down to the Earth.
Nor would the Earth
bow down to the Moon.
Then why do you think
that you can break
my will and I will bend
my knees to you... Little Flea?

You blame me for the
loss of your manhood…
What manhood?
You were never a real man...
just a puerile, heartless drone
who couldn't love anyone.

You've tried to crush
the warrior spirit in me,
to make me cower
beneath your ugly glare.
Because you thought
you could rob me
of my divinity...Little Flea?

But you cannot douse my fire
in the depths of dark oceans;
bury my fervent passion
in the density of desert sand;
nor shovel my self-esteem
into your bloody mire.

For I’m still goddess-strong;
and I...I bow to no one.

***This poem is dedicated to all my sisters around the world, who have faced abuse in any of its various despicable forms, but have lived a life of intransigence - fighting back, surviving, and rising up even stronger.

Great imagery. Bending down to no one is really a great theme. A great metaphor of flea is nicely developed. Even the message is loud and clear. The ending repetition worked and reminded me of Robert Frost. Great poem. Do visit my page too.

In our patriarchal society you have held up a beacon of light to guide the feminine heart Pandita. This is masterful and a beautifully strong declaration of equality of the sexes. Bravo! xxoo

Thank you my dear Connie for your powerful response - unfortunately, in too many places around the globe those beliefs still perpetuate and women continue to be regarded as inferior beings! Best regards. Pandita

I enjoyed this empowered piece. Go forward warrior. The man who does not fear a woman’s divinity will discover the reservoir of his own inner strength. The one who wishes to control has no self control.

My friend, I so appreciate your compliments for my work and for my new look (my natural silvery hair) - thank you so much! Life has been a little topsy-turvy but I'm OK. I recently completed a rigorous academic program so now I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here. Hugs and love. Pandita

Well written Pandita, there are some cultures and religions who think they can dominate and crush women, cowards that they are, their beliefs belong in medieval times. Tom
