Internal Inhibition
A voice inside my soul is my trusted inhibition
Yet, how often I aspire to indulge a pleasure
Inclined to engage in some frivolous volition,
When I am reminded of a greater treasure.
A still, small voice inside calls me to consider,
To weigh the ultimate reward of my frivolity,
Prudent decisions will always faithfully deliver
When I remember the better choice’s quality.
Some call it conscience, though I prefer to see
Divine guidance prompting morals and ethics
Which, for me, is doing right things joyfully
Following right paths despite persistent critics,
Listening to that inner voice has proven wise
Teaching me to view life through God’s eyes.
