Innocent Wonder
When you were a child, did you ever think you could fly?
Did you want rain to turn into candy, falling from the sky?
Did you ever pack up, with the intent to run away?
But found out there would be cake for dessert, and decided to stay?
I remember being told what not to do,
But did it anyway...I had to.
Did you share your childhood secrets with an imaginary friend?
Weren't you sure your belief in the Easter Bunny, would never end?
Didn't you want to stay up past your bedtime just because?
And put on a neighborhood play, bowing at the applause?
Did you think you would get too old for "Toyland" play?
Because sadly when that happens you can no longer stay.
When we were children, there was innocent wonder inside.
But as we grow up, we lose that wonder, and find that the innocence has died.
The outcome is inevitable, but maybe if we had known,
we could have held tight to some of the magic, to keep as our very own.
