In Your Eyes

I thought that I could see forever reflected in your eyes. But what was really there, was a history of goodbyes. When you looked at me, I thought I saw love shining through. But the love that was there, was not for me, but for you. The honesty that I convinced myself was there, in your steady gaze, was nothing more than a concealing, gray cloudy haze. The man that I thought I knew you to be, behind your eyes. Was a man that had just been wearing a brilliant disguise. The eyes are the windows to the soul, I believed. But I saw only what you wanted me to see, I had been deceived.

Nicely written, Sandy, a lot of emotion with a nice easy flow to it. I am glad to see others noticing that as well. All the best. John

Been there, felt this and your poem adds beauty to the feel in each line by beautifully and poetically spelling out the phase one reaches when their anger meets acceptance. So many stages beginning with raw pain, but that is other poems. It hurts knowing we can be deceived by personalities we never imagined existed. I've had poem therapy for every phase of this pain. Good, good poem and certainly a relatable one. Poetry hugs ... CayCay

Thank you, Cay Cay, It is sometimes hard to accept that someone you have been with so long is not the person you believed them to be. You start questioning everything. My best, Sandy
