In Your Eyes
I thought that I could see forever reflected in your eyes.
But what was really there, was a history of goodbyes.
When you looked at me, I thought I saw love shining through.
But the love that was there, was not for me, but for you.
The honesty that I convinced myself was there, in your steady gaze,
was nothing more than a concealing, gray cloudy haze.
The man that I thought I knew you to be, behind your eyes.
Was a man that had just been wearing a brilliant disguise.
The eyes are the windows to the soul, I believed.
But I saw only what you wanted me to see, I had been deceived.
