In These Days

In these days when times are tough And billionaires can’t get enough Our enemies are overjoyed Our CEO’s should be unemployed. They have sacrificed the country for their greed They’ve left integrity on the ground to bleed A lifestyle of royalty, unmitigated gall Then ask for the taxpayer to pay for it all. Our Congressmen are bought and sold with ease Corporate bastards can do what they please If they bail them out, we should break our silence And show our leaders some working man violence If you can’t run your company without a government windfall Then you should be removed from your position once and for all The only discussion about government bail Would be how much it cost to keep you out of jail You are the cause if the company has been derailed You were given authority and miserably failed In these days of utter salary disparity We need to end the corporate charity If the government bails out another corporation They need to hear thunder throughout the nation If another CEO gets another free pass This is war against the middle class If there are answers the government cannot supply Then the rules of engagement do not apply We cannot standby and wallow in self-defeat We need to take our battle into the street We are the people. We rule this land There are congressmen who fail to understand In these days when our economy is sub par We need to let them know they’ve gone too far.

I've often wondered why the common man has taken this disparity so far without rebelling, ('...take our battle into the street.) A most significant piece Vince, full of glorious rhetoric! Best wishes, Keith

I meant HIM outside! And also, the outpouring from the community restored my faith in humanity then - it was amazing. :) sorry for your loss of home, the pictures and heirlooms were the hardest for me.

Just wanted to respond to your last comment - (1972 was the year I was born) we went through it with 2 kids, too - they were 5 and almost 2. we were SO blessed to have gotten out alive (pets too) as it happened so fast, it was exploding and to the ground within hours. My little one almost did not make it, but for the grace of God, when we got to his room, the wall beside his bed was on fire, and it was so smoky we could not see anyhting - he was unconscious til we got his outside - God bless :)

Your indignation makes you sound more Dylan than Bob Dylan, Vince. Reading this reminds me so much of 'The Times They Are A-Changing'. "Come congressmen, senators, please heed the call...." Regards, Fred

You have said a mouthful. My sentiments esactly. These men have brought this country to it's need and they look to us, the taxpaying citizens, who they fire at will, to bail them out! OUTRAGEOUS! You should send this to all the heads of the big three and all the corporate giants! Well done!

I do agree with you Vince that if you can't run a corporation then you need to packup and abandon ship. I am just concern like you are about what the state of the country will be when all these folks are out of work. AT&T just said today that 12,000 will be out of a job soon. The war and murder of the middle class is under way. Chris.

Then he ask, "How many of you plan to sell those private jets and take a commercial flight home please raise your hand" well nobody raised their hand so he said, "Let the record show that no one raised their hand and also let it show thats how many will get my vote for a bailout" - You know in many ways my wife and I feel very lucky because the part of our life we just left behind was so bad that anything compared looks pretty good to us - God Bless you my friend, MJ

Vince three times I've started to comment on this poem and three times I was called away - Hopefully four will be my lucky number - I was watching where the CEO's were in front of a A panel of Congressmen I do believe but what caught my eye is the Spokesperson for the Panel ask the CEO's - "How many of you who are seeking federal aid for your cooperation flew here in you own private jet, please raise your hand" - well everyone raised their hands and he ask that be put on record - cont.

I'm not talking a shut down of the company. I'm talking an elimination of all executive positions. NO bail out. If the government pays that much it needs to be a buy out. Put people in charge who perform at a better than average living wage. Get rid of the primadonnas who are basically worthless and a drag on the economy. If you can't run your business at a profit, then you don't deserve to run a business. Vince

Too true my friend... there is such a disparity between the wealthy and the poor I swear ther no longer IS a middle class... great rhetoric which truly hits home. Best wishes, Keith (PS Take a look at 'The Land Of Lip Service...' I think you'll get a chuckle or two)

cont: but the middle class, the people who drives this economy will be left out in the cold. What will happen to Detroit if the car companies go under? The state is already in disarry with unemployment skyrocking. We all need to cool our heels and let these CEO midgets get their way to preserve the middle class. Love your poem Vince it has my juice flowing. I believe that eventually they will get whats coming to them.
