In the Shadow of Love
IN THE SHADOW OF LOVE
Her soft porcelain white skin, showed little after all these years
No more skipping for her as she now slowly ascends the stairs
Her husband now long gone photo sits beside their empty bed
Nights alone gave her time to think on all things they ever said
She says should I go first, forget me not if you find a new love
He caresses her lightly and says there will be no other, my love
She thanks him for all the happy years being her rock and man
For all of his support, their children, since their marriage began
He listens with an weariness, as soon it is time for him to leave
For this lovely lass, from grief, there will not to be any reprieve
Insurance paid up to the hilt, he never wants her to go without
He knows all her thoughts, will forever, be with him throughout
Last look at her husband’s photo, from her eye a tear did weep
Alas: it is she now, who ascends the stairs of ever eternal sleep
