In the Garden By the Cliff

In the garden by the cliff, She met a boy His eyes sparkled; hers sparkled with joy And to see him again, she should, she would come back In the garden by the cliff, He showed her new things Skipping rocks; the water made rings She was so happy, she would, she must come back In the garden by the cliff, They picked flowers and walked They sang and they talked She began to wonder, why must she always come back? In the garden by the cliff, He laughs with her and dreams Peeking around trees; hopping over streams And she knows she’s elated; can’t wait to come back In the garden by the cliff, She grows fonder and fonder Of his ways and his heart; she ponders Would he ever; is it possible, that he loves her back? In the garden by the cliff, She watches the wind ruffle his hair She feels silly, being jealous of the air The weather wasn’t perfect, but she knew she’d come back In the garden by the cliff, She sees another girl More elegant than herself, into his arms she twirls She flees, swearing to never, ever come back In the garden by the cliff, She came back; he’s ecstatic About the golden hair and deep eyes; she didn’t have it For him, she thought, I will always come back In the garden by the cliff, She couldn’t help but come And watch him with that girl, dancing in the sun She is breaking herself, continuously; she shouldn’t come back In the garden by the cliff, He introduces her to the beauty With eyes bluer than her own misery She means it this time, she’ll never come back In the garden by the cliff, She stands on the edge; hears their wedding bells Toppling near the precipice, and choosing so, she fell Broken at the bottom, she never came back.

I could see it in my mind, the garden by the cliff. Held my attention -- but, what a sad ending! :-(
