In Silence I Stand
Based on a 19th Century Painting
In silence I stand, your unkindness to hear,
barbs that tear deep into my soul -
so heartless and cruel they ne'er bring a tear.
You preach that my love was never sincere
and fall prey to the evil bent lies that you're told.
In silence I stand, your unkindness to hear.
So long since love and trust held me near,
replaced with words that belittle and scold,
so heartless and cruel they ne'er bring a tear.
You call all my love and my words insincere.
Here, all alone, I feel helpless and cold,
in silence I stand, your unkindness to hear.
I stand and wring my hands and I fear
that the warmth in your heart to the Devil's been sold -
so heartless and cruel they ne'er bring a tear.
Of my life I've given the best of my years,
in your eyes I prayed I'd never grow old.
In silence I stand, your unkindness to hear,
so heartless and cruel they ne'er bring a tear.
