In My Shoes

You said you wanted to walk in my shoes.
It could be tricky, too tight or too loose.
You’d wobble and hobble just like a goose
who trips o'er laces, gets many a bruise
when making merry and drinking much booze.
Be warned that my life is hardly a cruise,
I cannot afford to pick and to choose.
I live on my own; I am a recluse!

Great monorhyme, Paul. Nice splash of humour, entwined with a more serious note; walking in someone else's shoes (be they actual or metaphorical) is never easy! All the best, John.

It's said that passing shoes on to somebody else is not good for the feet! Perhaps in that case it's best to walk barefooted:) Thanks & Regards ~ paul

Walking in others shoes can be dangerous, Paul. Prefer my own. If I trip, then the blame is mine. At the moment I am having foot problems – arthritis is setting in. So far I am enduring the mild pain but in coming years I expect it will get worse. Of well, will just have to live with it. Best to you. / M

Sorry about your arthritis, Maurice:( They say that it can be quite painful...I hope yours will be lenient with you! I agree with you...best to keep our shoes on, at least our feet get used to them:) Regards // paul

With your talents you'd make a lousy recluse, Paul, far too gragarious. Fun write, good luck in the contest. Regards, Viv

Ha!...I wear a size eleven shoe...big foot for a girl of 5ft 8! I know this is really about life and not shoes, but it reminded me of other women trying to wear my shoes...and there's something to be said for living simple and alone!

Yep, a woman's eleven would be about 41/2 in European sizes...not much less than what I wear, a 43! But then, you are a big girl:) as to your second comment, I prefer the quiet simple life. Thank you for a pleasant visit. Regards // paul

You got witty and silly and it worked! An enjoyable, fun read, Paul, and that is always a delight. I can't see friendly you as a recluse, I think you'd start chatting with plants and things. Aw, there's a poem idea. Good luck in all things ... CayCay

It must be my age playing tricks on me, CayCay:)) Joking apart, life would be so monotonous were we to omit humour from it! Thank you for a most pleasant visit....looking forward to your next poem..."The Man Who Chatted with Plants":) ~ Have a lovely weekend! // paul

I'd toyed with a similar theme Paul as I remember an old contest - walk a mile in her shoes ... them my muse went her own way and went for humour! Good luck in the contest:-) hugs Jan xx

Our muses can be really funny, Jan. I started off with serious intentions, aimed at another contest, but then the mood changed and eventually I found myself taking part in this contest! Thank you for arriving here first...pity I didn't have the kettle on:) hugs // paul
