In Between Easter Eggs
Empty nest had come and gone,
Children were not yet,
The family get together
Was all adult at best.
There were no children to play.
The hostess felt the pallor,
Of nothing much to say,
She colluded with one of the men,
Sneaking with eggs away.
There were no children to play.
After the ham and fixin’s,
All were invited to ice cream,
But there was a big surprise!
Hunting eggs was the theme.
There were no children to play.
They laughed and broke many shells,
Even ate a boiled egg or two,
Sat down then for a glass of wine,
Showing eggs they gathered--a few.
There were many old children that played.
