In a Pleasant Grove: a Fairy Tale
In a pleasant grove where fairies ride
on dragonflies with iridescent wings,
they say it’s here the Blue Bird of Paradise
sometimes comes, and when he comes, he sings.
Legend has it long ago as if from nowhere
appeared someone who was a princess fair.
Loved by all the creatures of the pleasant grove,
she had eyes crystal blue and flaxen hair.
The Blue Bird of Paradise then came
to see her, and he sang all night and day.
Her name, when spoken, sounded just the same
as a beam of sunlight; she was Rae!
There was but one threat in the pleasant grove.
Dragons now were on the prowl, lured by the sweet
fragrance of the fairest princess, kindly Rae.
These dragons needed to be met with defeat!
Huffle-winks were dispatched from the pleasant grove -
cute creatures very tiny who escaped the view
of the nearby dragons as Rae hid in a cave.
The Huffle-winks knew very well what to do.
A righteous soul they needed to discover -
one brave enough to fight the dragons’ might.
A goodly man they found. With blinking huffle-winks,
they led back to the grove this armored knight.
The knight with but determination and his sword
fought courageously; the deadly dragons fell.
The fairies and the other creatures cheered.
As expected, this fairy-tale ended well.
Outside the cave, the fairies urged Rae to come out.
Like sunlight from behind a cloud, emerged sweet Rae.
It was love at first sight when the knight’s blue eyes
locked with Rae’s. No words did either need to say.
Of course a wedding next ensued inside the grove.
The creatures all decided a kingdom should be made,
ruled by their knight and his bride, Princess Rae.
Fairies riding dragonflies led the big parade!
The Bluebird of Paradise made his appearance too,
singing at the wedding of the king and his dear queen,
who to this day rule with peace in the pleasant grove,
where huffle-winks, if you don’t blink, sometimes can be seen!
