Impressions of a Holiday Visitor From 1901

~ Impressions of A Holiday Visitor from 1901 ~ America's gone and broke my heart When did X-mas become a shopping cart What's with the tawdry tinsel, the kitsch Why replace a holy day with a sales pitch Once on X-mas stores were closed In L.A. today 24/7's unopposed My aunt once went to midnight mass Now she's got her choice of yoga class And, oy, the music; vey, the songs Something sacred sure went wrong When 'Momma's kissin' Santa's lips' Next disc up -- 'Mrs. Claus Strips' So, friends, I'm going back to where I belong ~ Can't miss Midnight Bingo or Mah-Jong

Your poem is so true. Nothing seems sacred anymore does it?

Hi Gershon, I would like to live in the 1900's. I remember when people use to say Merry Christmas, not one person said it this year, no Christmas spirt at all. Sad what this world is coimg to. Happy Hanukkah

You know, all things considered (where have I heard that before) some things don't change much. OTOH, when they do change, why can't they change for the better? Seems they don't often.

" When did X-mas become a shopping cart" - I think this happened in the 90's.

I think that's about right... A pity, really...

Through your semi teasing lines, you are exposing a sad and bitter truth ! Now everything is commercialized. Money making is the only criterion . Splurging money on Christmas purchase and draining out the true spirit of Christmas! A great poem Gershon!

You've stated the case well, Valsa. As they say, 'great minds think alike.' ~ Mr. Modest
