Poem written for and submitted to “Tell Me About Your Hobby”

poetry contest 4/22/2024, Tania Kitchen, sponsor

“Scrapbooking began in the 1820s and grew in popularity throughout the 19th century and into the 20th century. Men, women, and children used scissors to cut information related to their interests and paste the clippings on recycled paper, re-purposed books, or commercially produced blank scrapbooks. Today, many scrapbookers prefer crafting digital scrapbooks that can be saved and easily shared without the need for cumbersome albums.” (Wikipedia.com)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I gather up pictures and bits of my past and scrapbook them into an album that will last. How dear to my heart are the photographs therein pasted; the hours I spent thus were surely not wasted. Their pleasures were many and no sorrow they knew, as fond recollections I now have them to view. I’m a child of scissors and a gummy paste pot; this album is the offspring of my patience, pleasure begot. I write about milestones and travels and such the times of my life that I treasure so much. A few special photos, a family tree with a few thoughtful words and journaling, soon I will see… This album I’ve made is much more than a book; it’s worth even more than the time that it took. It’s a book holding treasured memories made with great care by a heart and hands with embellishments, a legacy to share.
Just a beautiful poem dear Sara...infused with the joy of memory making and preservation...scissors drafted into the service of creating ones story. Brings back thoughts of childhood when I spent hours buried in a scrapbook lovingly put together by my Grandmother. Thoroughly enjoyed.
thanks, Paul, for stopping by and for your mindful and positive comments. My love for scrapbooking came from doing as you did with your grandmother. I could sit with her for hours and look at her albums and listen to her stories. Gotta appreciate the deep connection made. Have a great day, Sara
Scrapbooks are a memorial of our past. You must have time for them. Alas my time is limited. I do have albums of photos gathering dust. Need to refresh my past. Great poem.
- I've had Scrapbooking as a hobby for many, many years ... love it :) - Photo albums, pictures and cards - "This album I've made is much more than a book; it's worth even more than the time that it took " - There are endless hours behind the work - I sell my cards, but barely get paid for the material ...but, I have the pleasure of making them :) - Lovely poem, Sara :) - hugs
Dear Sara, The poem you wrote about making a scrapbook to hold onto cherished memories is very beautiful. The heart and soul of making an album full of treasured memories is in the time and effort spent collecting photos and other artifacts. To capture the feeling of warmth and reminiscence that comes from making a scrapbook, you stick to straightforward, descriptive language. Using adjectives such as "dear," "pleasures," "fond recollections," and "treasure so much" creates an emotional connection to the remembered experiences. Best of luck with the contest
