If the walls could speak
If the walls could speak
I wonder if they would spill all the hidden secrets
Would the foundation crumble under the weight of letting it all go
Would it cry for all the children
Who were victims of lost innocence
Would it tell all the stories
Of each family throughout history
Of the little black girl
Who felt alone
In a world that doesn't accept her
Of how she tried to scrub of her skin in the bathroom mirror
Wishing she could be whiter
Or of the scared son
In the living room waiting for his father to come home
Especially knowing he's been drinking a lot of alcohol
Knowing he has to prepare for another
Beating
Whilst his mother covered in bruises hides in shadows
Hoping her son doesn't expose what goes on at home
The walls sees how she chooses the abuse over her son
The walls have seen this many times before
They hoped this family would break the cycle
But it was wrong
The generational trauma carried on
Of the girl in the bedroom
She's scared
She knows her truth will be silenced
They choose not believe her
Of the violence that was forced on her
Or Maybe they'll ignore her
She thinks in the black community they all talk about unity
But in reality
If that 'unity' is endangered by
A victim
No a survivors story
Then that 'unity'
Divides until its you against
The community
But also
Your family
If the walls could speak
They'd take the opportunity
To be a voice
For all the victims that lived in that house
It would choose
To expose the silence of the abusers
And heal the survivors
