If I Weren'T Afraid

If I weren’t afraid, I’d do a zany thing - something that would give my life a little zing. Inside a private plane, I’d be flown up so high, then step into the blue and dive into vast sky! A parachute I’d wear - of course - upon my back. I’d do this wondrous thing, but guts for it I lack! I know it would be freeing and such a thrill for me. No risk-taker am I though, so it shall never be! Sept. 14, 2019 for Line Gauthier's "If I Weren't Afraid" Poetry Contest

Wow, I've had dreams of parachuting, but that's all the way I would go, in my dreams not in real life. I did get harnessed up for a parasailing when in Jamaica and right as I was ready to go a hard rain came in and it was no more. I won't even do that now, my risk taking left when I had my heart problem.

No one wants their life to end but fear is what keeps it from beginning. God's only gift is a sense of adventure.

This is one of my fears too Andrea. All three of my kids would sky dive if they had the money. They don't get that from me for sure. I missed seeing this one. I loved the rhyme. xxoo

I'm too afraid as well. Instead, I had the pleasure of a riding in a hot air balloon. It was scary, but amazing! Nice poem.

Your words take flight and your spirit soars . . . I can see you at the jump door with the jump count doing down 3, 2, 1 . . . .... .... ... ..

Be not afraid. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane never made any sense to me.

I suppose if a really strong young man had me on his back while going downward, i might actually do it (no, even then, I don't think so.) Haha

Hi Andrea, I enjoyed your take on the contest theme. I can definitely relate to this poem. I'm a professional skydiver in my dreams. In real life I'm terrified of heights. I wish you the best of luck in the contest my friend. Have a wonderful night:-) Alexis

Such an honest admission, Andrea. I admire your guts for writing it.... It comes out that you might be afraid of skydiving, but you're not afraid to admit the truth---the second quality being so much more important (and rare) than the first. Cheers, Gershon
