Notes About The Poem

If I Had a Secret Life

I look up and shield my eyes from the sun. Wipe my tears, wishing I had a secret life. I feel the stare of the neighbors around me. Neighbors without blinders as they labor whispers to one-another from dawn to dusk. I keep concealed a life I'm fond of and embrace. Like the garnet that hangs off a gold chain around my neck. I wouldn't tell my secret, a dragon I would like to be. I would live close to nature and endowed with magical powers. I'd reach for the garnet around my neck, as it would pulse coming ablaze in my hand; shifting me to my dragon form. I would be covered in midnight blue shimmering scales. Incandescent honey gold sapphire-eyes and a crown of horns. Twelve-foot tall, eighty-foot long from my nose to my tail's tip. Bat-like wings that would stretch outward ninety-feet from wingtip to wingtip, and a row of small tendrils that would run down my spine. The heavens will sing and rain will dance upon the ground, with the sight of my beauty. I will roar and snort fire out of my nostrils, crunch the tall grass and gravel, then leap into the swirling wind and soar in bliss above the heaven's sailing gray ships, under the full moon, away from human eyes. The thunder will boom drowning the sound of my roar. The skies will lighten to lavender and tangerine with the early dawn. I'll shape-shift into a mortal form once again to walk among the mortal realm. Or Step into the city's blue light shadow, while the nights call. A secret life, a Harlot, then neighbors will have had something to talk about. Quite an extraordinary secret life it would be. The neighbors would gave a gab fest about this. So beautifully written, Eve.

That really would be something to talk about. Enjoyed reading this Eve. Great work. Thanks for your comments on 'Volcano'. I recently read an interesting old book, Shadow of The Plains. Great read.

It's a little quirky to say but your poem reminds me of the last book in the bible...Revelations. Awesome picture. Thanks!
