Author's Notes: This poem, "Ich weiss schon, was du meinst," is the expression in the German language for "I do know what you mean." I used this particular expression from the German as stylistic technique for enhancing the lead-off and ultimate message of this free verse poem. I just happen to be the kind of poet who believes in the use of certain words, phrases, or aphorisms, at times, from a foreign language in some poems and themes I undertake -- depending on the subject -- in order to enliven and maximize the quality and aura of the English words used in some poems to better convey the theme and message of them to the reader. I guess in this sense, I harken back to the days of the likes of Eliot, Pound, Keats, Shelley, Heine, and others who understood the power and evocative force of foreign words or expressions in some of their greatest works. The theme I touch on in this particular write concerns the quintessential importance that "Love," "Fire," and "Passion" play as base force elements and emotions which in any relationship can be variable, but at the same time, are paramount in strengthening the surety and quality of commitment between two people in love. In my view, this is what enables successful relationships to ultimately stand the test of time. Nothing will ever be perfect in this life, but this is something that gives all of us as human beings a better notion to strive for. This is my message here with this particular write. (Now, you know what I mean!! or Jetzt, Sie wissen schon, was ich meine!!) (Gary Bateman - November 8, 2015) (Free Verse)

Ich weiss schon, was du meinst

I do know what you mean!
Trust me my dearest love—I do!

Whether I say this in German or in English,
my thought and intention with this are the same!

Since we first met years ago the love, fire, and
passion in my heart and soul for you have never
ceased or abated—and they shall never do so!

And the compelling force and the palpable feeling
created by the alchemic nature of our relationship,
shall be with us always in this world my dearest love.
I say this even until it’s time for us to shake off this
mortal coil of ours!

Yet, I say even beyond this mortal plane, the love and the
feeling we share shall find their rightful place at the center
of our respective souls, as we gain our entrance into God’s
Kingdom in all of His Divine light, love, glory, and eternal
harmony!

Worse it could be though, but I dare not ever think of this,
for I believe in the depth of our love, the strength of our
sacred convictions, and the power of our emotions—all
of which shall stand the ultimate test of time and the surety
of our commitment!

And so my love, I say be not ever afraid—for I shall be
with you in your moments of joy, happiness, sadness, fear,
rejection, illness, and celebration. That’s the joyous bond
we both eternally share in God’s very eyes!

Life can be great, it can be glorious, it can be challenging;
and it can be unfair, and it can be wicked for sure—given
the unfortunate ways and foibles of human nature!

Even with all of this said and done—this shall never, ever
alter the love, fire, and passion I have for you in my heart
and possess in my soul my dearest love!

And so my dearest love . . .
I do know what you mean!
Ich weiss schon, was du meinst!

Hello Dear Theresa!! I've been away here for a couple of days and I'm now trying to get caught up. Thanks as always for your wonderful comments!! Your last sentence is quite wonderful. (It has such deep poetic meaning. Did someone say this actual statement before, or is it your invention?? I must remember it. It's given me actually an idea for a poem.) So see . . . you do have influence on me with your comments (HA!! HA!!) Best Always, Gary

Hello Broken Wings!! Thanks so much for your gracious words here and for the "Seven." (If you find the poem you mention with the title in French, I would be very happy to have the opportunity to read it.) And, by the way, I did actually write my poem here for my wife, Ingrid, who just happens to be German. She really liked it here and thought the technique I employed with lead-in statement in German was quite novel!! Cheers and Best Always, Gary
