I Wonder
They know who they are
But can’t tell what they are
They know their aim
But at it they can’t aim
I wonder!
They’ve cleared their route
On it, for once, they’ve never marched
So nice a path for themselves they’ve cleared
Afraid, their feet hesitate to tread
I wonder!
Rightly, to them, it does belong
And sure, they’ve known for long
So great a chance, for them, God made
See, they watch as into thin air it fades
I wonder!
See how blessed they are
From this very truth they are far
On the key have their fingers been placed
To try their luck with the lock, they can’t
I wonder!
What they are not
They claim to be
What they claim to be
To become, they strive not
I wonder!
See how ignorant they are
See how, their own future, they mar
See how for doom they head
See how from the devil’s pot they feed
I really wonder!
