I Will Call You
I will call you, he says. Fully lying.
A tiny tear forms before she can wipe it away.
This is how all of her dates end.
He gave her a soft apologetic smile.
Do you need cab money?
The tears are flowing freely now.
He is a blur as he waves and leaves.
He knew that she knew he was never going to call.
But he had to escape. She made dull seem boring.
His true soul mate, only given a brief hour and ten minutes.
He spent the rest of his life looking,
Never realizing he needed to give her more time.
