I Was Not Up

Summer 1972 I have a brand new baby I love her to pieces But I am exhausted I had no idea babies were this much work It is not like an eight to five job It is a twenty-four hour job It’s hot here We spend a lot of time in the store Where they have air conditioning To cool down Someone says to my husband “I saw your lights on at two a.m. Is everything all right?” My husband says “I wonder why. I wasn’t up.” I want to kill him.

Last line superb, that's what you feel especially when your hubby sleep and you have to wake up alone at night

Very interesting narration. The pain of rearing a baby all alone?

He worked in a store during the day, so I let him sleep but that was before men started doing their share with the house and the babies.
