I Want To Confess

I want to confess as I have committed a sin, Sitting idly in my emotional incapacities Conscious that this is only television screen. I see people being butchered like flies therein Women being gang-raped in large degrees I want to confess as I have committed a sin. The school kids getting burnt alive within, Due to the negligence causing short circuits, Conscious that this is only television screen. With mere curiosity I watch each of the scenes, I want to cry, get angry but can’t, my apologies! I want to confess as I have committed a sin I am taught not to dwell long on any scene, As I can view next day’s batch of goodies Conscious that this is only television screen. All of my emotions whirled into the screen Getting a call for hangout from my buddies. yes, it is all too easy for us to become desensitized to what we see on our tv screens...a hard hitting villanelle, and the only thing that kept it just outside of 3rd was the slight deviation in the rhyme scheme in stanza three - congrats on your win in my contest

Hello Dr. Ram - I agree that many of us are not sensitive to the images of violence we see on television - real or fiction. I suppose that this is to protect ourselves or we might become so affected by this that it would hinder us from being able to keep going in our own lives. Very sad though...to see the never-ending social problems that exist. Very well-written and your poem draws attention to the insensitivity in a highly intelligent way. - Gail

I find that offering very insightful in regards to the detachment so prevalent in the world today. Seen so much so quickly we fail to feel the horror it should birth! A well written wake up call. Bravo! Your "sin" we all guilty of and sadly so often think nothing of it . Bravo..
