I Wander the Desert Alone

I walk in this barren desert alone I can taste the sand in my mouth Thirst increases for water and love I crave the oasis that I imagine Hoping to find it, with you there The open land is dry and hot I can’t find shade to hide in What I escaped, still remains a shadow To follow me, mile after mile I search through the empty silence For all the answers that I need To keep me going in my travel Suddenly, the sky catches on fire With a brilliant orange and red sunset I am motivated to endure another night 10/1/18 *Entry for I wander the desert alone contest. Very unique desert imagery, Heidi. You're so gifted at being able to express yourself outside of the mundane ink boundaries. And of course, you always incorporate nature so seamlessly into the thematic arc of your poems. Such good poetry soup to brain ingest on a cold, October night.

Hi Heidi, You did a great job with the contest theme. You used the required words to write a good poem . I could just imagine the whole scene. A person on journey to find someone that alot to them. Although the search is hard they will not give up. I have missed reading you. I wish you the best of luck in the contest:-) Alexis

Heidi...you nailed it! Beautiful poemscape of a desert of loneliness! As the painter struggles to find a place to hide, the sunset paints another picture...one of encouragement....a glimpse of hope....renewing strength to persevere...in her quest for lasting love. Bravo!

The desert was indeed apart of my childhood. I can still feel the sand whipped on my legs by the winds. You describe it so well - even the sunset.
