I Stroked Monty Python

I went to an ‘animal experience’ its something I won’t forget Sitting there on benches with a canopy to stop us getting wet The first creature we saw was a giant cockroach – it was sooooo big We had the chance to hold it I said ‘no way’ just put it on a twig Next we saw a giant African snail The thought of holding it made me go quite pale Finally they brought out the snakes I was so scared I got the shakes But ‘Monty’ python was so stunning I was good and didn’t go off running The lady held it for us to touch So warm and soft it wasn’t rough Touching a snake does not hold such a fear I will be brave again if I go next year Jan Allison 19th July 2014

Wow, Jan, what a cool experience. I must admit that a giant cockroach does not sound like that much fun. But, it must have been quite fun and the python sounded interesting. This was a fun one, I liked it.... Robert.

Good for you! I will confess, I don't do snakes, and if my wife even sees one on a commercial, it guarantees a nightmare.

An interesting and exciting experience, no doubt! About a month ago I went to Mdina and there were several animals on show. I was allowed to hold a big yellow python and wrapped it round my neck while guiding its head with one hand and the lower part (near tail) with the other. It was really placid! My daughter took a photo...still to see it! // paul

sounds very interesting. NOthing like those old petting zoos of yore. We went with out students to a biology museum and got to hold a tarantula. A pretty big one too. Snakes do have a nice feel to them, but I would not want to come upon a rattler by mistake!!

Hi Jan, I like your light, funny write! When I read the title I first thought of John Cleese and the gang, but came quickly to realize this was about the animal. I admire your braveness and courage!

Dear Jan, I have never feared snakes, but admire your courage in stroking "Monty." Most ladies would run away! I have held snakes and they do have an unusual texture in their skin. Just stay away from the poisonous ones. I'm in NJ and my sister said people just spotted a python in a nearby lake. Non-native species are invading many areas due to pranks by man. Hope the effect is not devastating. Love, Carolyn

I had to steel myself to do it Tim but truly it was incredible - i expected to to be dry and scaly but it was warm and silky. The thought of touching the cockroach and the giant snail with all its slime was vile LOL. Hugs Jan xxx
