I See Congratulations Are Due

I See Congratulations are Due By Elton Camp Our niece’s last visit had been a while So we met her at the door with a smile I wondered how she had got to be so fat As we three chatted about this and that The truth gradually began to sink in, I looked at her with a knowing grin I was certain that it wasn’t a guess She was adding to population excess “To you and Bob congratulations are due. Your only child was really one too few.” My wife gave a sharp jab right to my side A frown from the pain I tried hard to hide I quickly found it had been a huge mistake Her none-too-subtle warning not to take Our niece blushed, her face fiery red And this is the next thing that she said: “I don’t appreciate you making fun of me. I have only gained a bit as anyone can see. It was in family friendship that I came here After that insult, that I’ll be back never fear.”

The Kellogg Company used to describe situations very similar to this in their television commercials for Special K. Once again, this piece has great descriptiveness and rhyming.

OMG, this is toooo funny, Elton! The last time I saw my nephew's wife, she had put on a lot of weight. I was afraid to ask if she was pregnant and later learned she was carrying twins. You stuck your neck out by commenting, Elton, and the guillatine dropped fast. Very witty! Love, Carolyn

Hey Rohini, Thanks for reading and commenting. Most of my poem are about real events, but fortunately for me, this never happened. Elton
