I See Congratulations Are Due
I See Congratulations are Due By Elton Camp Our niece’s last visit had been a while So we met her at the door with a smile I wondered how she had got to be so fat As we three chatted about this and that The truth gradually began to sink in, I looked at her with a knowing grin I was certain that it wasn’t a guess She was adding to population excess “To you and Bob congratulations are due. Your only child was really one too few.” My wife gave a sharp jab right to my side A frown from the pain I tried hard to hide I quickly found it had been a huge mistake Her none-too-subtle warning not to take Our niece blushed, her face fiery red And this is the next thing that she said: “I don’t appreciate you making fun of me. I have only gained a bit as anyone can see. It was in family friendship that I came here After that insult, that I’ll be back never fear.”
