I Never Did Foresee When Young

At first, I wrote because I felt the need
to bare my soul in letters when away
from loved ones. Later, thoughts I had I freed
with words I used my best way to convey
emotions that I felt. Sometimes I’d write
short stories since I loved to read so much.
With drama many authors could ignite
enchantment in me with their magic touch.
Much later in my life, I took my pen
to paper, but THIS time - compelled to rhyme -
I felt new lyricism take me! Then
what had eluded me all my lifetime
revealed itself! I never did foresee
when young that one day I’d a poet be.

Beautiful poem! My favor to ask of you is: please tell Soup my computer was hacked and I'm unable to send my thanks for the POTW award. I'm so very honored! The repair man is on vacation for another 2 weeks, so I'm trying to find another who will come to my house.

This sonnet is delightfully autobiographical and moves along so winsomely with smooth enjambments and stellar rhymes, all the while telling your arc towards finding your ultimate calling to be a poet. I'm glad poetry finally found you, because I love reading your poetry - especially your wonderful sonnets. A fave for me, dear friend. Never stop writing, please ~ John

thanks for the fave. I felt disappointed not to get a win, but can't win 'em all, that's for sure.

I always hated shivering from the cold, but one Halloween at school I heard, "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service, and have been a poetry fan ever since! May one of your poems have the same impact on a student! Aloha!

I know a few folks who asked me for my poems for Halloween or other things, so it's so nice when that kind of thing happens for us poets.

Thanks, susan. I am really hurting with regards to normal activity now that my husband needs a caretaker and I basically can't even leave the house for several weeks!! I think poets here will wonder why I am not responding to them much lately!

Yes a true blossoming Andrea, you are much Like myself in this I read quite a bit when Younger, and I suppose ignored the call to Write, yet there was always the need to express Thought, and finally I put my pen to paper Completely trying to reach and respond to the Complexity that is life.' seventy years ago writing was so easy for me in any form such as short stories and poetry. Now I am stagnant. The temptation to delete my site is great.

oh please resist the temptation to do that. Others in the past have done it, and they regretted it.

You have already proven that you can do it. Andrea, your poetry is so great that no one can read it fast enough. In point of fact, your enchanted touch is impossible to conceal, and it is something that no one else could ever do; in my opinion, you are a skilled poetess across the board.
