I greatly miss my beautiful childhood. My mind wanders to those lovely years, When life was sheltered under my parental roof, With my siblings and cousins, a gregarious gang! It was a time when no worries weighed us down. Had no responsibilities to shoulder. Like wind, we ran across plains and meadows Chasing butterflies and lured by the songs of birds. Fun it was to play ‘Hide and Seek’, With friends reversing the roles in turn, The ‘cop’ chasing the thief in hide, And the ‘thief’ evading the cop in chase. Never knew, foolish it was to bury deep Many a coin, stolen from the piggy bank With hopes to see them sprout some time, Yielding thousands for the autumn pick. On warm summer nights, we caught fireflies, Shut them in glass bottles to see them glow And kept them in dark corners with all lights off For the thrill of watching a mini firework in the night Our days were resonant with giggles and laughter. Each day awaited us with new wonders unfolding. We watched the world with undying curiosity It was a time of carefree adventures and enjoyment. As we grew old, how in vain we tried to hold back The moments of childhood joy that fleeted away, So fast like the receding tides of an ocean, And glue up the shards of shattered innocence. In the evening of life, in my twilight years In the cusp between my old age and death, I still search for those days that have slipped away Like tiny grains of sand between fingers.

Wow.... never expected such a high placement. Thanks a lot dear Empress. I am all happy. These lines have come from my heart. My children can never dream of such a blissful and fun filled childhood, though amenities were so limited at our time. Even our long walk to the school was so memorable. Thank you once again sweet friend.

I miss my childhood too... You are such a wonderful poet dear Valsa... You wrote a poem that I can resonate with, but in different ways.. Your poem is a poignant meditation on the passage of time and the cherished memories of childhood. Its evocative imagery and reflective tone invite readers to join the speaker in reminiscing about their own youthful days. The poem serves as a reminder of the transient nature of life and the enduring value of holding onto precious memories, even as they fade into the past.

Valsa what wonderful happy memories you recall from your childhood my friend. You remind me of of mine. What a blessing to be able to recall and describe these cherished thoughts in your awesome poetic talent. My grand father used to tell me as I grew older, Jennifer in years to come, I was in my late teens at the time, sit quietly in an armchair, and think of your life up to that moment, it takes no longer than 10 minutes to recall all the nostalgic and important happenings in your life. It works for me . We reach our mature senior years before we know it,. My dear Valsa , you are a special friend. Hugs, blessings Jennifer.

Dear Valsa, what a wonderful meditation on the passage of time and the inevitable changes it brings. It reminded me that while we can't return to our childhood, the memories and lessons from that time continue to shape us and provide comfort even in our twilight years. A Fav!! Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

What a pleasant childhood you had. So many have abusive or neglectful parents. Others are entirely on their own. But for you, good things to cherish and recall. Nice
