I Love Him Still
Tho not the one I chose to love
Too many faults to rise above
Not tall enough, and much too old
So, only friendship first took hold.
He was country, I was city
A match for us, I could not see
One night as we sat neath the moon
My heart burned bright, began to swoon.
Our time was short, death had stepped in
And robbed me of what might have been
I could not understand just why
But knew I’d love him till I die.
That was forty-five years ago
I’ve lived a lot, had much to show
The past may hold this bitter pill…
But I know this, I love him still!
