I Love a Word
Oh, how much I love a verse
that comes upon me unrehearsed
and makes the gentle symmetry
of mathematical poetry,
a morsel straight from inner parts
carried with me at the start
that turns on my female mind
to flash and dash like a neon sign
of all life’s ecstasies and cares
no greater joy or glee is there
than just to say as words express
a sadness or a happiness
that lingers there inside your soul
and mellows as the days grow old.
Although this may just seem absurd,
I'm very much in love with a word.
Although this too may seem absurd
wherever I go I carry a word.
