I Know
I know you're trying
Or maybe pretending to
With dreams in your heart
And caution in your soul
You walk a path
Which is unknown
With no end in sight
Tumbling on in the night
Wondering about what
It means to be alive
A connection here
An alienation there
That's the circle of life
Not sure if it sounds fair
Always preparing
Don't know for what
You've perfected your method
With a helping of mistrust
Like a beam of light
It shines far away bright
Illuminating the way
Even when you fight
Angels and demons
You've encountered them all
Making friends with them
Or recognizing none at all
When the time comes
You think you'd be ready
Still waiting to figure out
If it feels too dizzy
Events keep happening
People also change
It's the law of nature
Even memories do fade
The urge to matter
Or a will too mundane
Sometimes I ponder
What is it that keeps us sane
Faced with danger
Or just truly enraged
When to hold back
When to engage
What to expect
When all else fails
Cringe in a corner
Or adapt to the change
An odd sound
At the stroke of night
Reminds you of a time
When it all seemed just right
Another rainy day
Turns to a cloudy night
You set out in to the sunset
Wishing it's somehow alright
