I Control My Child
I control my child she said.
Her child is sixteen.
I do not speak.
He always does what I tell him to do she says.
I keep silent.
Wondering if she told him to run down the neighbor’s cat.
He listens to everything I say, she says.
I see him sneaking out the window behind her.
I keep his secret.
