I Cannot Wait Until Tomorrow
I cannot wait to wake up; can barely go to sleep.
Tomorrow will be a day of adventure; my heart sings.
I get to see my friends, and it has been a long time.
We’re going to do crazy, zany, marvelous things.
In person, not on skype or on Zoom.
One by one they begin backing out, afraid of the pandemic.
I call the last person and say “We’re still on, right?”
She is all in; thank goodness. We wear our masks, but that’s it.
The rest of the day is normal. We know we are taking a risk.
But sometimes a risk is worth it; this is one of those times.
If I die tomorrow, at least I had today!
