"You will have bad times but I will always wake you up to the good times that you weren't paying attention to" ~~Robin Williams~~ When all seems lost, and he is in his darkest hour, I am his power. When pain takes over his demented twisted mind, I am the love he will find. When he feels alone and confusion drapes a morbid veil, I am his caregiver that will pave a healing trail. When sadness torments him beyond belief, I am his relief. When dementia strikes its ugly blows, I am his rock, the one that never goes. When voices fill his mind with terror, I am his clarity his sanity bearer. When his wounded soul cant take any more, I am the one that can help his peace to restore. That's all that I am, I am his wife, I will be with him for the rest of his life.

Wendy what should I tell of you. You are incredible my friend! The courage and confidence you show are amazing. To be by his side as a companion and aide is the best thing you can do as a wife.Dementia is a sad condition. May God give you the strength to wade through the murky waters of life. There are many , even men hardly in their fifties suffer from dementia. But many of them land in care homes. You stick to the norm.... "in prosperity and adversity, as man and wife, we shall stick to each other". Great poem which has brought a lump to my throat!

Sweet Valsa, as I am sure you know, there is nothing courageous about caring for someone you love, That's what God intended for marriage and parenthood. He gave us these gifts, I believe in exchange that we give a promise of unconditional love. There is no valor in looking after someone you love - no heroism. You just do it, its like breathing ( bad example for me lol - I don't breathe too good ! ) Umm its like I know.. its like writing poetry, you just do it because you can ! I truly love you sweet one. Sweet Wen, I loved your familiar take of compassion, love, empathy--on the I AM. Your signature, a couple who knows the meaning of true love, who will care for the other when time asks. This would make a great collaboration with "Undone"

We did collaborate on one Anaya and won a place ! It was fun too, and while we were doing it he didn't call me "stupid" once !!! lol Thanks for your lovely comment. I love in undone how he says he will explain to the kids ( they are 46 and 51) He hasnt played Golf for years He is so good at remembering years ago.. Cheers wen.

Such a heartfelt, poignant poem dear Wen and so beautifully expressed. Your loving words will resonate with many. ‘ When he feels alone and confusion drapes a morbid veil’ ‘ I am his carer that will pave a healing trail’ really stood out for me. This poem is a collision of emotions! It's incredibly heartbreaking but also very beautiful, as the love you have for your husband emits through the darkness of words used to describe his ailment. Comments can sometimes to be superficial, but "I Am" most sincere in telling you that I am sorry you and your family are suffering from this, but that I am also proud of you for being so strong and unwavering. This is very personal, so thank you for sharing this, friend.

Thanks Shane but don't feel sorry for us, there are lots worse off. I didn't write it for sympathy or to make myself out to be a saint. My husband will tell you .. I am not ! lol I hate those talent shows where you just have to say you have cancer before you sing and the judges will love you, no matter how bad you sing ! BUT I appreciate the fact that you like the poem and glad we have become poetry friends. Cheers Wen

52 years Tom, and most of those years we looked after each other and the kids. Its progressing slowly which is a blessing. I am happy to take the load, but I didn't mean to make myself sound like a selfless saint. There is still a bit of give and take. Thanks for your nice comment. Cheers Wen

Thanks my sweet sunshine, I thank our lord that not all days are like I depicted in the poem. We do have happy times too. Reading back to myself I realised I made myself look like some suffering saint. The fun days are less now but they do come. Thanks for your lovely words and of course your precious hugs ! Wen.
