I AM

"You will have bad times but I will always wake you up to the good times that you weren't paying attention to"       ~~Robin Williams~~

When all seems lost, and he is in his darkest hour, 
I am his power.
When pain takes over his demented twisted mind,
I am the love he will find.
When he feels alone and confusion drapes a morbid veil, 
I am his caregiver that will pave a healing trail.
When sadness torments him beyond belief,
I am his relief.
When dementia strikes its ugly blows,
I am his rock, the one that never goes.
When voices fill his mind with terror,
I am his clarity his sanity bearer.
When his wounded soul cant take any more,
I am the one that can help his peace to restore.
That's all that I am, I am his wife,
I will be with him for the rest of his life.

To be by his side as a companion and aide is the best thing you can do as a wife.Dementia is a sad condition. May God give you the strength to wade through the murky waters of life. There are many , even men hardly in their fifties suffer from dementia. But many of them land in care homes. You stick to the norm.... "in prosperity and adversity, as man and wife, we shall stick to each other". Great poem which has brought a lump to my throat! He gave us these gifts, I believe in exchange that we give a promise of unconditional love. There is no valor in looking after someone you love - no heroism. You just do it, its like breathing ( bad example for me lol - I don't breathe too good ! ) Umm its like I know.. its like writing poetry, you just do it because you can ! I truly love you sweet one. It's incredibly heartbreaking but also very beautiful, as the love you have for your husband emits through the darkness of words used to describe his ailment. Comments can sometimes to be superficial, but "I Am" most sincere in telling you that I am sorry you and your family are suffering from this, but that I am also proud of you for being so strong and unwavering. I didn't write it for sympathy or to make myself out to be a saint. My husband will tell you .. I am not ! lol I hate those talent shows where you just have to say you have cancer before you sing and the judges will love you, no matter how bad you sing !
