How Long It Took

She says God created the world in seven days I will admit that God certainly has his or her ways, But science clearly shows it took billions of years To form fossils, coal, diamonds and, I think, tears. So, I respond to her thinking with a glint in my eye, I can’t change her opinion no matter how hard I try. So, I believe the universe is much older than this… Than the Bible seems to indicate back in Genesis. We will be arguing this point until the end of time She is clearly set in her opinion, so am I in mine, But no matter how much we argue and disagree Her archaic way of thinking will never satisfy me. I have accepted that she has a right to her opine If she allows me plenty of space to have mine!

Beautifully penned, Milton! Sadly, most are uncompromising in their narrow views. Congrats on your win!

Blind to fact is the sign of our time. The assault of truth, the cry of the fearful. In plain talk and polished by rhyme, you represent this quandry of society well. Congrats on your placement.

Trixie and I are dancing and reveling in this line "I will admit that God certainly has his or her ways," We cannot get past our love for it.

Thank you so much, Delice. I had some trouble coming up with an idea for the contest, so I landed on this one. I hope it goes.

My love and I have very different beliefs about the bible, too. Trying to make him agree with me feels too much like an ego reaction - to us. What saddens me are those who never bother to find out what beliefs resonate with them. I much prefer spirituality to religion because I like questions I cannot answer more than answers I cannot question. Your write is so effective at engaging others to mediate on their druthers. This poem may very well lead to universal peace and understanding! CayCay

An exquisitely crafted poem, Milt, your difference of view and debate were excellent, and I enjoyed the rhyme as well. Good luck in the competition.

Everyone has a right to their opinion and everyone should respect that. One thing I found interesting with regards to Darwin and Hawkins was the bits they couldn't explain they put down to the miraculous. Hope your weekend is going well Tom

No it was Stephen Hawkins I was referring to Milton. You might have seen the movie, The theory of everything.

Funny, I am reading Richard Dawkins's The God Delusion right now. Is it Dawkins you are thinking of? Thanks for your comment on my poem, Tom.
