How I Loved You

Too little did I worry,
Too little did I know—
I wasn’t sure that you would stay,
But I never thought you’d go.

And isn’t it amazing,
How quickly day turned night?
It seems my eyes are failing,
For I cannot see the light.

O, they say that it is coming,
No farther than the dawn—
But it seems the sun is indisposed,
For it weeps that you are gone.

Some will call it merely rain,
But how are they to know?
Whatever do they know of pain—
Or how I loved you so?

Lost love is expressive with poignancy in your tender poem, Keneth. The ache of a broken romance is felt in the sad beauty of this piece. Congratulations on your wonderful and well deserved recognition with POTD honors. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

You’re a dear. I’m of the opinion it takes a romantic to recognize romance, and how nice that you are—a romantic!

Kenneth this poem touches so many. It's so universal. That terrible gully of loss~ when all seems hopeless. Have been in that dark place too many times! Sincerest congratulations on having penned, the POTD! Panagiota

That actually means a lot, given how often I was taught in college not to “gush,” or “bleed” on the page—that and “forced rhyme.” I am ever cautious of both. Thanks Charmaine!

Thank you, Connie! Perhaps I’ll dedicate it to my cousin, Emily, of whose works I am in awe—of her pages of “prancing Poetry!” Have a delightful day :)

Hi Paula! I did lose a dog—my buddy, Rocky—but I relied on empathy for this one, though I do know the pain. Then again, my unconscious does pop up now and then. Sometimes people see more in my poems than I do, which is intriguing. Have a wonderful Sunday :)

Hi Sunlite! I have written some lyrics for a talented friend, which was fun. The writing process wasn’t much different, the two mediums related as they are. Thanks for the congratulations and have an awesome day!

I remember being taught never to “gush” or “bleed” upon the page. There is pain, yes, but hopefully not too obvious. Thank you, Caren!
