How I Feel About Gershon Wolf

The poem I have written about is THE UNIVERSE WINKS by Gershon Wolf Statues rise and fall Empires stutter and stall Genius streaks 'cross the sky Leaves in its wake more 'Whys?' Mountains slowly erode Earth cracks, they implode The seas advance then recede A hiss of steam from icebergs freed The sun grows old, begins to expand Turns devil-red, scorches the land A mighty blast proclaims its twilight The universe winks ~ goodnight
PRAISE FOR A POET A tough Chicago guy, We don’t always see eye to eye ~~ I am a Christian, he is Jewish (Chasidic) He’s a hawk, I’m a dove. He’s a conservative, I’m a liberal. But I really admire Gershon, he’s my friend, And I would stand up for him any day. Gershon tends to see the darker picture. He sees the glass half empty; I see the glass half full. In his “The Universe Winks,” for example. Everything is on a negative, downhill slide, The earth is eroding, cracking, imploding, The sun is an enemy—scorching the land. He would have the U.S. institute a No-Fly Zone Over Ukraine, as another example, While I believe doing so would greatly increase The inevitability of confrontation with Russia. I do not want to see the U.S. and Russia at war With each other. It would be the worst possible scenario. Although we have differences of opinion I have great admiration for Gershon Wolf. He is as fine a gentleman as I have ever met, And he is a staunch advocate for his beliefs. I do not always agree with him, but I will fight For his right to express his beliefs and opinions. If everyone would take this attitude Toward those people with whom they sometimes disagree, The need for fisticuffs and/or verbal assault would be Negligible, indeed!

Thank you for the tribute, Milt. It is remarkable, i.e. worthy of remark, that two fellows who think as differently as we do can get along just fine. We're living proof that men can disagree in a reasonable manner... btw, we don't always disagree. Often we have the same goal, but different methods to achieve it. Thanks again. Light and Joy, Gershon

I believe you are absolutely right, gw. Sometimes we just have a different approach to the same end! I always respect the way you see it, though.
