Horse Named Pride

I rode high up in the saddle,
on a prancing horse known as Pride.
Outside beaming with confidence,
but empty and shaken inside.

An old wise man once told me,
it was a long time ago.
You have to walk a dusty trail,
before you're white as snow.

Waded out in the muddy waters,
I got down deep to save my soul.
Left my high horse in the pasture,
leaving Pride has made me whole.

I enjoyed the read Wren. My take on your wise words? - Pride comes before a fall. Best not to be too over- confident. I'm sure there's much more too so I'm off to read it again. Cheers - Gary

Hi, Wren. Your three-stanza rhyme belongs in the category "truths that live in words"! Connie said it best: "Simply brilliant!" This is a Fave poem for me. Congratulations on your win on Mile 9 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 10 has already started!

Enjoyed your poem Wren. As they say, "Pride cometh before the fall". It's a good horse to dismount as soon as one becomes aware of the illusion. Congrats on POTD, Wren Happy New Year! Bill

You have given a great message on the New Year day. When we ride the high horse of pride, we are likely to be kicked down at some point of time. Before that happened, you voluntarily got down and saved yourself ! Such poems should become POTD. Congratulations dear friend Wren!
