Hoping for a Bed
he thought life was tough at home
did not realize the thrill of warm food
or a soft bed
decided school was too hard
hated algebra and biology
knew living on the streets would be fun
danger came many times a day
what started out as an adventure
sometimes took a nearly deadly turn
he was embarrassed and ashamed
did not want to call his parents
was urged to do so many times
hoping for a bed tonight
but was turned away
for others had gotten there ahead of him
