When you are at your lowest ebb
And you are feeling really low,
When you are on the edge of an abyss
And can see nowhere else to go,
When life’s treatment of you seems unfair,
When the odds seem stacked against you,
When you want to improve your situation
But no improvement comes in view,
When you seem to have dug a hole for yourself
But somehow can’t stop digging,
When your ship’s mast has crashed to the deck
And you’re tangled in the rigging,
When you only flourish in the light
But the dark is closing in,
When you crave a fair share of the cake
But your slice is cut too thin,
When you fight hard and fight again
But no battle you ever win,
Then there is only one thing that keeps you going
And only one thing that helps you to cope,
It’s the thing humanity treasures most of all,
It’s a little thing called … hope!
