Notes About The Poem

Holiday Abecadarian

Airports are often the starting place for the holiday
Boredom sets in waiting for the journey to begin
Can’t wait to get in the air and get away for a while
Down the runway and we finally take to the sky
Everyone breathes a sigh of relief when we land safely!
Finally we arrive at the resort and the holiday begins
Get to the hotel room - flop down on the bed exhausted!
Hotel needs exploring and we head to the pool
I start to get comfy on the sunlounger and relax
Just minutes later the kids start arguing – grrrrr
Keep a smile on my face and quieten them down
Looks like its time to go and get a cooling ice cream
Moaning ceases and harmony is restored once more
Next morning we enjoy a leisurely hotel breakfast
Oh how wonderful no cooking for a week!
Pack up our buckets and spades and head to the beach
Quiet it is not …we are packed on the sand like sardines
Really enjoy making massive sandcastles with the kids
Sun tanning bodies lie in rows – some people look like lobsters!
Time for a break and escape the heat of the mid day sun
Until it is cooler we head indoors to the kid’s club
Vacations or holidays we should take time out and enjoy
Week away in the sun with the family is a special time
Xxenodocheionology is the love of hotels – how appropriate!
Yikes! The mountain of holiday washing in our suitcases
Zephyr winds will guide our plane back home

This reads very smoothly and is how I feel after a vacation. Jan, line 5 I think should read "sigh" not "sign"? Or maybe "sign" fits here, too? Anyway, it's your choice. Thanks for reading Home Sweet Home. / M

Very true! Oh how I love vacation though! I'm about to take my 3 and 4 year old on a beach vacay for a week. I feel like it is going to be so relaxing, but subconsciously, I know... Lol! Do you really live on a little island? Are you really living MY dream? What island? Care for a visit from a fellow poet? Lol!
Allison Avatar
July 9, 2015 at 8:18 AM
I live on a little Island called the Isle of Man it is mid way between the UK and Ireland - exotic and warm it is not lol but I love it - been here since `1996 and will never move from the tranquil safe life we have:-) hugs Jan xx
