Hitchhiker
I wondered why I’d flagged her down –
She looked a mess and acted weird;
She talked about the deaths she’d watched
And roared with laughter as she steered.
I said I didn’t want to know
About the accidents she’d seen;
She told me, ‘Hell, I’m having fun.’
And, ‘Get out then if I’m so mean.’
At last I said, ‘I get out here.’
- I hoped to thumb another ride -
She let me out and laughed again,
And told me, ‘This is where I died.’
She vanished then before my eyes.
As thunder rolled and lightning flashed,
I slowly walked towards my spot:
The place I’d died, where I had crashed.
