"In the winter season the Sun, being driven away from his former path through the heaven by the stormy winds..." - Herodotus, Histories II, 24

Herodotus Theory of Winter

When blown from its course, summer's done.
That wasn't quite true,
Was maybe coo-coo,
But thinking about it is fun.
