Here We Go Again
When I was eight
I said to my grandpa
I would only believe
In what I saw!
“God, I did not see
So,How could he be?”
Grandpa said he agreed
With what I believed
And with that creed
I could succeed,
“But remember how you thrive”
“With air that keeps you alive”
“Yet can’t be seen with the eye?”
“But” I said “to be fair”,
“I can feel the air!”
“And can smell with my nose”
“That little garden rose”
“And I can hear it blow!”
“So air exists, I know!!”
“But God I cannot see“
“hear or smell”
“And that He exists”
“How can you tell?”....
Grandpa kept a face
Whimsical at its best
serious was his gaze
Feigning a wisdom test...
“There are things that deceive”
“our senses, that perceive”
“Black holes exist but can’t be seen”
“And nomads see mirages umpteen”
“there are many things beyond reason”
“Not all as clear as the seasons!”
“One day you will surely understand
“That there is god in every strand”
“He cannot be seen, heard or smelt”
“But his presence is always felt”
“in mother’s love for her child”
“Even amongst creatures wild”
“Why would a bird build a nest?”
“Or a cow put a calf to breast?“
“Why would a bird dare a snake”
“And risk life for chick’s sake?”
.........
It is years since grandpa’s death,
Smiling he took his last breath.
Life journeys at a slower pace
As Time has put me in his place
My Tiny grand tots play with me
Morning, evening and at tea
One of them pried me one day
“God doesn’t exist! What you say?”
I shook my head with a smile
I knew this would take a while,
Resting the arms on my cane
I said “ Here we go again!!”
