Her Mask
She wears a mask to hide what's best in her,
and since she only does what others say,
she feels that she is stifled; it’s as if
the mask she wears is getting in the way.
How rosy are the lips of this young woman,
but she does not perceive herself to be
a person with significance, and so
a silent beauty is all we can see.
Behind the mask this woman wears so well
is someone of great worth; she has no guile.
If only she would but unmask herself
and show the loveliness of her sweet smile!
