fiction!
Curiosity once killed the cat, so I’ve heard. (I don’t know about that!) I’m a curious one, and I like to have fun. I’ll relate what my bad choice begat.* When some seeds I’d not ordered arrived and I planted them—Whew! How they thrived. Now my actions I rue. I’m so deep in kudzu,** an escape plan must soon be contrived.
*archaic for caused or brought about, . . . **Kudzu (/'k?dzu?/; also called Japanese arrowroot or Chinese arrowroot) is a group of plants in the pea family. The plant climbs over trees or shrubs and grows so rapidly that it kills them by heavy shading. It has earned it the nickname "the vine that ate the South"--Southern U.S. About those packets of seeds people were receiving from China-- Although the species identified so far are harmless, plant experts have warned that seeds from other parts of the world could damage crops. The Agriculture Department has said the packages are most likely part of a "brushing" scam, in which a seller sends unsolicited items to someone and then posts false positive customer reviews to boost sales. posted August 14, 2020 placed first in Carolyn Devonshire's Mystery Seeds contest, August 18

Janice, I love this poem! When I lived in Tallahassee the local government actually bought a herd of sheep to eat the Kudzoo, but they couldn't keep up with it. Also, thanks for letting us know about the "brushing" scam. Congratulations on a first place win in the contest! Best wishes, Carolyn

The poem is fiction, but I'm from the South (Mississippi) and I can say kudzu has earned that nickname! Thanks, Lindsay. Janice
