Hello Daddy

When I miss my father I go into my closet And bring the sleeve of his jacket to my nose He has been gone nine and a half years But this red and green plaid jacket smells like him It brings me comfort and joy If I am missing him more than usual, I put it on and wear it. Before I put it back into the closet I always say “thanks Daddy” And I usually say “Hi Daddy” when I take it out. It is the most precious thing I own.

Marvelous. Well-written, too.

I now have a jacket of my mother's too, in the same closet. I have not needed to smell it yet, but I am sure I will.
