Heart of Mumbai

Strolling down a busy street at night, looking up at the thousand colored lights in the sky In the heart of Mumbai stood I Watching young and old lovers walk by Breathing in the sweet saffron wafting high Then a yellow-veiled canary came fluttering broken wing near me, in the heart of Mumbai And she fell down to the ground, with a wounded tear in her eye Reaching out my hand like a noble, global citizen, I offered my unconditional compassion Though bashfully shy, she bravely asked me curiously why Seeing we were merely accidental strangers And I told her truth spoken free, that is how friendship first begins Bringing a tear to a smile is the best stranger token gift given After which, we talked for a good while ... and on that virgin night, she sailed into my island heart Beautiful lady of India, my fluttering heart of Mumbai Tantalizing figure of love, who let me kiss the tear from her eye Beautiful rising star of India, my heart glows in Mumbai Transcendent vision of true love, forever shines in you and I

I was attracted by the title---and I certainly wasn't disappointed. This is elegant, eloquent romanticism, a real tribute to the poet as well as to the place, the person, and the passion. Bravo, FRJ! Best wishes always, Gershon
