Heart-Shaped Slipper

Listen to poem:
Million and one things better than applause..
okay to go through life ne'er seeking praise.
Though rain tree unwatered, grows half as tall,
an unloved heart wilts in overbear'n shade.

Your so called friends left such beauty undone.
chide more than console you 'can't win 'em all'
Well, perhaps not your day courageous one,
they meant to maim, not name belle of the ball.

Love's heart-shaped slipper, torch carried for you..
finest soul yours, only fit worth trying.
Turn away from bright stars, riven'd in two..
my eyes were ne'er any good at lying.

Can you hear it pretty belle of the ball?
a heart's applause, best won prize of them all.

Sandra, Thank you, that one line can't strike a nerve all by itself. So which was its twin? -Richard

There is nothing that beats "to love and be loved". A heart is meant to give and receive. ~ Best regards // paul

Hello Victor, You won't believe what my pen turns into at midnight. How is the summer in Malta? Is it more a destination or starting point in life? -Richard

Heidi, Thanks for your comment. In hindsight I suppose a heart shaped slipper might not be practical. I heard it call just the same. I'll be watching for the rains to come again and subside. And hope to hear the excited chatter of the birds. -Richard

This is a wonderful poem that any Poet may relate to. Our poems are a part of ourselves we share when possibly the words are not there to speak, they may be written to reveal the depths of one’s inner personality. I love this Richard. “Applause”! xxoo

Hello Connie, Thank you, what an interesting comment. Not for lack of words, though personality is quite another thing. If I had to choose a motto, then let it be “A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others” -L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Eyes don't lie ... so true. It is a thrill to see someone wear his heart on his sleeve, especially if you are the recipient :)) Loved the poem with its theme that hankered back to Cinderella.

Hello Suzette, Thanks, they get heavy lugging around all day, torches and glass slippers. Does the spell really end at midnight, no one really knows. -Richard

This is so gently encouraging, wonderful line 'my eyes were ne'er any good at lying.' And I agree the 'heart's applause' of the one for you is the best prize of all!
