up, she threw it ...
tossed my heart like a coin, she did
offered it up to the great expanse and the choking veil
to roil and spin like some bastardly bribe to the gods
and return to earth with a sickening, sodden thud
seeping, slow-thrumming, desiccated ...
but she forgot to bless it, you see ...
so the damned thing passed through the ground like ether
bound straight for the fiery furnace itself
one end yet wrapped about her perfectly perfect ankle ...
(the weight of her lies like a burning angel)
and in she went ...
lover and all.
