He Whistles As He Walks, This Man

He whistles as he walks, This man who knows not love And he comes upon a sea Upon the other side is the wanting bosom of the horizon But this man he cannot cross the torrents, For this man he knows not love So he walks along the cost and comes upon a lighthouse It shines its light across the wide expanse of blue Screaming out with its bright blinding light “Here! I call you Star-crossed Lovers, Here!” And he is blind to its call; he sees an abandoned shell, This man who knows not love He whistles as he walks, This man who knows not love And he comes upon a child and her favourite memory Nestled in the arms of her long lost father, gazing dreamily at the lapping waves And he walks through these haunting spectrals For they are naught for this man who knows not love And he whistles as he walks But hears no tune.
